From VinaData to VNG Cloud

VinaData was founded in late 2007 in response to an urgent requirement to assure the operational capability of VNG's many ambitious initiatives. This was a time when the practice of data centers (TTDL) was still relatively new in Vietnam, and technical issues arose regularly due to a lack of standards for facilities and telecommunication infrastructure. 

However, with only 42 people at its headquarters in 20bis Cong Hoa, VinaData successfully established and ran two data centers, comprising a system of hundreds of rack cabinets and a power capacity of more than 2000KVA at two cities: Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

From here, VNG experienced accelerated growth as it was able to manage massive amounts of player data from games, fueling the development of new popular games like Boom and the "super" platform Zing MP3. 

Following that, in 2010, VinaData continued to expand and upgrade the data center infrastructure at Quang Trung Software Park, the HQ facility that maintains tens of millions of account data. This data center provides a consistent user experience and immediately contributes to the success of not only the game segment, but also the quick development of Zalo and Zalopay applications.

By 2013, VinaData had officially and successfully created the capability to run two data centers simultaneously, with a capacity of up to 4,000 servers and a data storage volume of up to 12,000TB, establishing a robust data foundation for VNG's internal products. 

VinaData then began the commercialization process by providing server colocation and data center operation services to various Vietnamese enterprises and banks, initially developing sophisticated digital solutions to support local businesses throughout the early stages of digital transformation.

VinaData has officially entered the Cloud computing industry after only 5 years, leveraging the remarkable benefits of existing data center infrastructure, storage technology development capacity, and operational capabilities. The VNG Cloud brand was officially launched in 2019, possessing the ability to self-manage Cloud computing technology and a modern, complete, and pre-optimized digital solution set from Infra-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, to software solutions (Software-as-a-Service), all of which have been specifically optimized for enterprise's process of digital transformation to take place quickly.

With extensive expertise in deploying storage infrastructure and cloud computing, VNG Cloud has consistently tried to provide sophisticated technology solutions to suit the market's growing demands. VNG Cloud's greatest achievement to date is being one of Vietnam's top three Cloud Computing service providers, sustaining market share with over 1,000 regular clients, and providing a safe digital platform for a customer ecosystem of up to 120 million users.

However, it is not easy for VNG Cloud to operate cloud computing infrastructure, provide business continuity, and drive digital transformation for more than 1,000 customers of various sizes without consistent efforts. VNG Cloud has its own strategy for leveraging open-source platforms while also leveraging VNG's international-class security knowledge to self-develop digital solutions that are appropriate for the business's scale and specific requirements.

VNG Cloud inherited considerable experience from the VinaData technical team, who have devoted themselves to building the digital platform for VNG for over 15 years.
