On 10 December 2025, Vietnam’s Law on Cybersecurity (LOCS) was formally enacted and is scheduled to take effect on 1 July 2026. The law establishes clear obligations related to data localization, defining the entities subject to the regulation, required data retention periods, and mandatory security safeguards.
These provisions significantly raise the bar for how organizations approach data storage. As a result, data storage decisions should no longer be viewed solely as infrastructure or system architecture matters, but rather as a core component of an organization’s long-term data governance strategy.
